Studio Ghibli Oil Painting

Studio Ghibli (characters) – Oil painting on wood (100x35cm).

Studio Ghibli, Inc. (Japanese: 株式会社スタジオジブリ Hepburn: Kabushiki-gaisha Sutajio Jiburi) is a Japanese animation film studio based in Koganei, Tokyo, Japan. The studio is best known for its anime feature films, and has also produced several short films, television commercials, and one television film. It was founded on June 15, 1985, after the success of Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind (1984), with funding by Tokuma Shoten.

Eight of Studio Ghibli’s films are among the 15 highest-grossing anime films made in Japan, with Spirited Away (2001) being the second highest, grossing over US$290 million worldwide. Many of their works have won the Animage Anime Grand Prix award, and four have won the Japan Academy Prize for Animation of the Year. Five of Studio Ghibli’s films received Academy Award nominations in the United States. Spirited Away won a Golden Bear in 2002 and an Academy Award for Best Animated Feature Film in 2003. Totoro, a character from My Neighbor Totoro, is the studio’s mascot.

On August 3, 2014, Studio Ghibli announced it was temporarily halting production following the retirement of director Hayao Miyazaki, who co-founded the studio with Isao Takahata.

In February 2017, Toshio Suzuki announced that Hayao Miyazaki has come out of retirement to direct a new feature film with Studio Ghibli.

The name Ghibli was given by Hayao Miyazaki from the Italian noun “ghibli”, based on the Libyan-Arabic name for the hot desert wind of that country, the idea being the studio would “blow a new wind through the anime industry”. It also refers to an Italian aircraft, the Caproni Ca.309 Ghibli. Although the Italian word is pronounced with a hard ɡ, the Japanese pronunciation of the studio’s name is with a soft g.

Il mio vicino Totoro (My Neighbor Totoro)

Il mio vicino Totoro (My Neighbor Totoro) –  Acrylic painting on canvas (50×50 cm)

My Neighbor Totoro (Japanese: となりのトトロ Hepburn: Tonari no Totoro) is a 1988 Japanese animated fantasy film written and directed by Hayao Miyazaki and produced by Studio Ghibli.

The film – which stars the voice actors Noriko Hidaka, Chika Sakamoto, and Hitoshi Takagi – tells the story of the two young daughters (Satsuki and Mei) of a professor and their interactions with friendly wood spirits in postwar rural Japan.
The film won the Animage Anime Grand Prix prize and the Mainichi Film Award and Kinema Junpo Award for Best Film in 1988. It also received the Special Award at the Blue Ribbon Awards in the same year.

In 1989, Streamline Pictures produced an exclusive dub for use on transpacific flights by Japan Airlines. Troma Films, under their 50th St. Films banner, distributed the dub of the film co-produced by Jerry Beck.
This dub was released on VHS and laserdisc in the United States by Fox Video in 1993 and on DVD in 2002. The rights to this dub expired in 2004 and so, was re-released by Walt Disney Home Entertainment on March 7, 2006 with a new dub cast.
This version was also released in Australia by Madman on March 15, 2006 and in the UK by Optimum Releasing on March 27, 2006.
This DVD release is the first version of the film in the United States to include both Japanese and English language tracks, as Fox did not have the rights to the Japanese audio track for their version.

The movie and its titular character, Totoro, have become cultural icons. My Neighbor Totoro ranked 41st in Empire magazine’s “The 100 Best Films Of World Cinema” in 2010, and Totoro was ranked 18th on Empire’s 50 Best Animated Film Characters list.
A list of the greatest animated films compiled by Terry Gilliam in Time Out ranked the film number 1. A similar list compiled by the editors of Time Out ranked the film number 3.
The character made multiple cameo appearances in a number of Studio Ghibli films and video games and is recognized as one of the most popular characters in Japanese animation. Totoro was ranked 24th on IGN’s top 25 anime characters.

Harley Quinn (Barbara Palvin) The ultimate joke

Harley Quinn (Barbara Palvin). Digital Painting

This is my interpretation of Harley Quinn.
Harley Quinn is a fictional character, a super villain in the DC Universe.
She is a character in the animated series Batman, conceived as sidekick and girlfriend of the Joker.
Barbara Palvin is the model that inspired me.

To make it I used Autodesk Sketchbook Pro and Adobe Photoshop for color correction (Wacom Cintiq 13HD).
I finished it in 8 hours.

Harley Quinn is a fictional character, a super villain in the DC Universe.
The character was introduced on September 11, 1992, in Batman: The Animated Series and later adapted into DC Comics’ Batman comic books, first appearing in The Batman Adventures #12 (September 1993).
As suggested by her name (a play on the word “harlequin”), she is clad in the manner of a traditional harlequin jester. The character is a frequent accomplice and girlfriend of Batman’s nemesis the Joker, and is also close to the supervillain Poison Ivy, from whom she gained her immunity to poisons and toxins.

Barbara Palvin (Hungarian: Palvin Barbara, born 8 October 1993) is a Hungarian fashion model and actress.
